Genesis of Nature Metaplot: Phase One



Hello, Wake Players! So as you've already known from the last announcement, things are getting strange in Nautilus and the plot is only GROWING more mysterious.

Ascended are becoming afflicted with the same symptoms that Areva exhibited: growing tired, wanting to stay outdoors, wanting to feel the earth, and showing signs of plant growths over their bodies (even if they are non-organics!). Of course this took several months for Areva to show and develop but it doesn't take much to come to the conclusion that what had happened to her is now happening to the Ascended.

But....not all of them are affected. While their peers have started to sprout, they themselves had stayed the same. But. Why? And does this mean that there is something that they possess that can help reverse the effects of this new development?


List of Affected, Unaffected, and Researchers

Here is a convenient list of Affected Characters and Unaffected Characters. By now it should be clear who is in which category. The symptoms seem to target only ASCENDED though not all of them. It is certainly not because Angelii or Ashura have an advantage over the other since both groups have both ranks.

Perhaps finding a common thread will be the key to solving this mystery.

Be OOCly aware that there is ONE unaffected character that does not fit the mold of the rest. This was due to us realizing that this character would have immunity in a different way than the rest but would still be considered immune. Have fun with that.

Information for Researchers/Medical Personnel

This is information that you may encounter if your character is a scientific researcher or medical personnel and is trying to analyze, evaluate, and diagnose any of the Affected. Be aware that you, the players, may be contacted in regards to any consequential development due to their actions.

The samples that Azmuth and any others take from Areva (leaves, spores, bark, petals, etc) are alive despite the appearance that she is carved out of wood.

• The cells in them are strange. They have the traits of being organic and natural but they are shaped slightly differently as if they have been altered.



• It was hard to tell in the beginning if this is because Areva's human DNA/form caused this trait (as she isn't 100% plant) or if these cells are malignant.



• However, the samples will change as time goes by. Since more than a month has gone by now, one can also say that the cells are changing and warping.



• They can easily conclude that what happened to Areva is happening to Ascended Characters.

There's no trace of human in the Areva samples. Science people would just conclude that she's all plant from tests. If they try to detect heart beat/ brainwaves/ breath/ etc, there is none. But it's safe to conclude that she is potentially alive....just not in the same way as a person would be.

Bio scanners and characters with bio scanners cannot conclude a direct cause of this progress. They would either result in an error message, an inconclusive message, or perhaps even just conclude that there is plant material...which is already obvious to any Wakened.

The Sight will not reveal any Bending Traces on Areva, Affected, or on any samples. Ashura would not be able to find Coding that suggests Bending being the cause either. It is clear that this is not something afflicted by any known Bending.

Sample cells from affected characters will be similar to Areva's cells but not as pronounced or clear. The further the progress, however, the closer the samples will match.

Transplanting Samples:

• If one took plant samples from an Affected character and transplanted it on a non-sentient creature or non-Wakened (ie: Arcas residents), the samples will die in minutes.



• If one took plant samples from an Affected character and transplanted it on a non-Ascended Wakened, the samples will die within an hour.



• If one took plant samples from an Affected character and transplanted it on another Affected, the samples will continue to grow.



• If one took plant samples from an Affected character and transplanted it on a Unaffected character, the samples will die in minutes.

Soon enough, it's also clear that this affliction is not passing through food or objects. Any samples of these items will come out negative.

Nautilus' Gift: A Reprieve (December 19th-29th)

The symptoms that Affected Characters are experiencing can fade, regress, or disappear between Friday 19th and Tuesday 29th. This IC gift is for players to decide whether to utilize or not and in what capacity for their individual characters.

We the mods have been looking at the timeline for the metaplot after several players brought to our attention that the timing of this first part was extremely stressful. Again, we apologize for the stress this has put on a number of players by making this fall the same time as the holidays.

This was due to many factors including life changes, unintended halts in the first half of this first part, and to not have it run too far into 2016. This metaplot isn't meant to run as long as AoE or Dark Aeon nor be as dire but we underestimated the impact of the reveal and for that, we apologize and thank you all for being as thoughtful and mindful as you have in coming to us with your concerns.

We really do want you all to have fun and though we do throw curveballs in this game sometimes, we don't want to make it an overly stressful experience either.

The Wake's Metaplot has always been written to be directed by players' gameplay and thus always has a multitude of possibilities and a flexible nature to accommodate natural developments and progressions.

We have decided to present one of these possibilities for this month for Affected Characters:

Nautilus, sensing the danger affecting his beloved Ascended, will reach out later this month to lend a helping hand to counteract the effects inflicting them. Because he loves them, you know.

The symptoms will start to reappear on Wednesday the 30th, for the effort would strain Nautilus too much (as he is still recovering from Chaos literally piercing his Heart last year) but this would provide characters with a time to spend with their friends and family without dread over their heads. And importantly, it might instill some hope. Perhaps the reprieve would give them some further clues as well.



Reality Storms during the Metaplot

Normally this would be around the time where we would put up the poll for next month's Reality Storm.

However, we will not be having a Reality Storm in January and will put future Reality Storms on hold for the remainder of this metaplot arc.

We've come to this conclusion after considering player feedback, handling of Reality Storms in previous metaplot arcs, and the status of the current metaplot which will become more complex in January.
